Starting an organization

Whether you want to become a for-profit business, a non-profit corporation or a registered charity, you need to be aware of both federal and provincial laws 

Social Enterprise Canada has a Canadian Social Enterprise Guide that comes in free web and downloadable PDF versions, as well as a hard copy that you can order. It has info on creating a business plan, evaluation, the Canadian legal context and the differences between for-profit corporations, non-profit corporations and charities. 

Social Enterprise Canada also has two regional offices in Toronto and Ottawa with a list of social enterprise supporters. The Toronto office offers workshops and technical assistance grants of up to $10,000.
