Community Gardening as a Political Act

Join The G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education and Ella
von der Haide for an inspiring presentation on activism through
community gardening. Ella will talk about the social and political impacts of
community gardens and how the day-to-day actions of community gardeners in
Argentina, South Africa, Germany, and North America can be seen as political
acts. Ella's presentation will include clips from her documentary film series, Another
World is Plantable!, which explores community gardens and their connection
to social movements.
This event is presented by The Chang School’s Certificate in Food Security and Course Series in Urban Agriculture, and co-sponsored by Toronto Urban Growers.
Our Featured Speaker
Ella von der Haide is a German filmmaker, garden activist, and spatial
planning researcher from the University of Kassel. She is currently working on
a PhD film project on queer feminist ecologies in the gardens of lesbian,
gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and other queer individuals.
