Awards corner
Here's a few of the stellar Torontonians who have won awards for their work over the past year:
The Backyard Urban Farm Company received two 2016 Awards of Excellence at the Landscape Ontario Congress in January. The first award, "Special Interest Maintenance, Residential or Commercial" was in recognition of maintaining over 250 square feet of edible gardens in a neighbour's yard. The second award, for "Special Interest, Construction", was for the 300 square foot greenhouse and three raised beds they designed, built, and installed in that same neighbour's yard.
In October, Johanne Daoust received a Design Award of Excellence from Green Roofs for Healthy Cities for her roof top vegetable garden in the Small Residential Intensive Category. You can see some of Johanne's work at https://www.flickr.com/photos/johanne_daoust/
Arlene Throness, Coordinator of Rye’s Homegrown Rooftop Farm at Ryerson University was recognized as a 2015 Rising Star by the Toronto Botanical Gardens Aster Awards.
