This gathering is open to all young farmers in Ontario. This is for farmers only please not gardeners as the topics are farming centered.
About this event
In Ontario the amount of new and young farmers starting up farms or becoming farm workers has been rising! Many of us know there’s other young farmers but there are few opportunities to meet! Sundance Harvest will be hosting seasonal young farmer gatherings to talk shop but also build community. At these free gatherings you will be able to also talk about different themes such as CSA farming, community land trusts (incl. Farm ownership models), start up capital, marketing, no- till and so much more. We will have structured groups for those who would like to flow between the different discussion topics and we will have one of our greenhouses and in the other greenhouse it will be an open space for those to have some hot tea, snacks and to freely chat about what they’d like to.
This is a free event however we will have tickets to ensure we can keep the amount of people coming to 40 maximum. You are welcomed to come at the start of the day or at different parts.
Here’s the breakdown of the day:
- 11am-1130: Settling in, Cheyenne gives a tour and getting to know each other
- 1130/12: Breakout groups start for the themes: CSA Farming, No-Till, Community Land Trusts, Marketing and Start up Capital. In the first greenhouse an open, unstructured, discussion will occur.
- 2pm: The structured groups close, but you are free to keep hanging out!
Because it’s in a semi-closed space moving around together and because we are an active workplace with staff, we will be requiring proof of vaccination. In the summer when we can spread out more outside, Sundance Harvest will consider changing that however while we are being indoors in the greenhouses it’s mandatory. Thanks for understanding.
