Launch of Floating Gardens in Peter Street Basin

September 24th 2017. 11:30 to 12:30

Floating Gardens Take Root in the Peter Street Basin

Floating gardens have been installed in the Peter Street Basin to enhance the water as a focal point, improve habitat for aquatic life, and reintroduce wetland species to a once industrialized waterway.

Launch event:
Saturday, September 23rd from 11:30am-12:30pm

Peter Street Basin, located on Queens Quay West, just east of Lower Spadina Avenue

Loch & Quay, located at 390 Queens Quay West, will be catering the launch event.

The project is led by Scadding Court Community Centre (SCCC), in partnership with Ward 20 Councillor Joe Cressy, WaterFarmers Urban Agriculture Innovation, Harbourfront Centre, and with support from The Waterfront BIA, and Toronto and Region Conservation Authority.  As the government sector spearheads large-scale waterfront revitalization, this is an example of community groups also playing a role in reclaiming spaces for public benefit.
