Urban Beekeeping Certificate

The Urban Beekeeping Certificate introduces you to the fundamentals of beekeeping. You'll gain the skills to become a beekeeper. Three experienced beekeepers will lead you through knowledge building and hands-on beeyard sessions. 

This six session series spans the seasonal cycle of bee keeping from spring to fall.  Come experience and learn together with 15 people! The small class gives you lots of opportunity for interaction between other students, beekeepers and bees.

Beekeeping Sessions 

Session 1: The Honey Bee and Beekeeping Basics 

Learn the basics of beekeeping, the fundamentals of hive checks and skills to become a beekeeper.

Sesson 2: In the Beeyard

Group A: Sunday, May 29th 1:00-4:00pm, Group B: Friday, May 27th 1:00-4:00pm

Session 3:  Beekeeping skills and Bee Health

Go deeper into the fundamentals of checking a hive, how to monitor and help maintain bee health in your colonies.

 DATE: Wednesday, June 15th 6:00-9:00 

Session 4: In the Beeyard continued

Group A Sunday, June 19 1:00-4:00pm, Group B Friday, June 24th 1:00-4:00pm 

Session 5: Products of the hive and mini harvest

 Learn how to extract honey, work with wax and options for harvesting from the hive.

DATE: Wednesday August 10th 6:00-9:00pm

Session 6: Late summer/ Fall work for the Beekeeper and Preparing for winter

Learn about what to be looking for in hive checks in the fall and concerns for the colony moving into winter.
